Southtown

Bud’s Pizza and Beer is one of my favorite spots for a classic slice in St. Louis, and every time I visited I noticed a couple of obelisks and signs denoting “Southtown”. Due to my research on this site, I knew Southtown was not an official St. Louis neighborhood, so I was curious.
It seems there used to be a Southtown Famous-Barr department store at Kingshighway & Chippewa that was demolished in the ’90s that gave the area its name.
Now, there are new restaurants and bars filling up the space, such as the Golden Hoosier and Himalayan Yeti. It’s honestly not the most walkable area of the city due to Kingshighway being such a busy street, but I can see the area getting more and more built up as Garcia Properties is working on revitalizing it.
